As you all know having our own space has been awesome! However, we have had several on-going challenges at the Chelsea Market location. The biggest issues are an elevator that inconsistently works and now insufficient parking! So, we began to search again….
Art Square Studios at 2327 Commerce will be our new home. This is their 4th location, the first is Art Supply on Main Street, Art Square Studios on Fannin (across from Sears) and Art Square Studios on Commerce (next door to our building). The developer is committed to providing reasonably priced space for artists and businesses by renovating/re-purposing buildings. Our space is in an old warehouse in the EaDo (East Downtown) section of town, just 4 blocks east of Minute Maid Park. The EaDo section of town has experienced a lot of gentrification and growth in the last few years, it is a happening part of the city!
Our building has been gutted, it has wood floors, tall ceilings, exposed pipes and exposed exterior brick walls. There are 84 parking spaces in the well-lit lot. We are on the first floor, no need for an elevator. We have worked with the developer to get a space that suits our needs. We have a big restaurant sink for our wet needs, plenty of storage space AND the best part is we can now have our meetings comfortably in the Guild House!!
Our lease is set to begin on November 1. We should begin moving in November 3rd and be out of Chelsea Market by November 15th.
