New Weavers Study Group

http://weavehouston.org/

This gallery page features the CHH New Weavers Study Group (CHHNWSG). This group was started by Lisa S. to answer a need for a study group focused on loom-controlled weaving that would undertake some of the projects that the long-standing study groups have already done. The first weaving project for the group is a color gamp study.

Bethe has been weaving longer than most of the new weavers - and her samples prove it - notice mug rugs, tapestry, towel, AND space-dyed warp. Bethe also spins. Bethe is a graduate of Tracy's Weaving 101 class - and has taken workshops with Ann Matlock and most recently Peter Collingwood. Bethe started out as a tapestry weaver. Her color gamp was Waffle Weave.

Lisa founded the group - and is a very exacting weaver. The workmanship in her color gamps and towels is characterized by consistent beats and beautiful selvedges. Her color gamp was the 3/1 Twill.

Gina completed the Weaving 101 class this year after taking a one-week weaving course in 1999 at the John C. Campbell School where her school project was this shawl in a combination of swedish lace and plain weave. Her color gamp is the Turned Twill.

Lou also attended the Campbell school - her turquoise scarf also uses swedish lace and plain weave but with a closer sett. Immediately after returning from the Campbell School, Lou wove two vanity scarves for her mother in a windowpane check - one in white with blue and one in blue with white. Her favorite project so far is the silk scarf woven from silk dyed in an Upstairs Studio workshop with Tracy. Lou is also a graduate of Weaving 101. Her color gamp is the Summer and Winter.

Amber is tackling both weaving AND spinning. Her project here is a handbag knitted out of her own two-ply handspun. Her color gamp is the Huck Lace.

New Weavers Study group members not participating in the color gamp projects (but very enthusiatic participants in other activities) are Ann and Emma.

The new weavers study group welcomes new participants. Our meetings either focus on planning an upcoming project or study of a particular weave structure or aspect of weaving.
